The Rainy season is characterized by possible cloudy skies and possible rain showers with day time temperatures 55 to 60 Fahrenheit and night time temperatures 40 to 45 Fahrenheit.
The Inca Trail closes for maintenance in February each year. Alternative hikes are available.

The day before the trip begins, we will go to your hotel to give you a briefing on what to expect and what to bring. The next day we will pick you up from your accommodation at 4:00am. We will have snacks on this morning however breakfast is your responsibility on this day, so please bring it along if you. Also bring 2 liters of water for each person. It will be a 2 hour drive in our private van to OLLANTAYTAMBO (2,700 meters/8,858 feet). From here at 6:00am we will take 1 1/2 hour train ride to the beginning of our short inka trail. The train ride will be along the Urubamba River which also connects with the Amazon River. Along the way we will see beautiful landscapes, farmlands and the beginning of the tropical forest until we will arrive at CHACHABAMBA Archeological Site (2,000 meters/6,561 feet). Here you will have chance to explore this site and your guide will give its historical significance. At 8:00am at km 104 we will begin our trek. The hike will start gradually for 45 minutes and then we will have short uphill sections with original Inca steps. Along the way, you will notice different ecosystems, flora and fauna and enjoy the views of the Vilcanota mountain range and MACHUPICCHU MOUNTAIN. After hiking for 3 hours we will arrive at WIÑAYHUAYNA (forever young) (2,600 meters/8,500 feet). Here your guide will give you a tour and explain the historical significance of this ancient site of the Incas. After the tour at about 12:30pm we will take a break and enjoy our packed lunch that we provide. We will then continue our hike on the original Ica trail for 1 hour until we reach the Sun Gate. This will be a short beautiful hike with plenty of flora such as orchids, begonias and bromeliads to enjoy along the way. After 1 hour we will find the last famous gringo killer also known as the monkey steps. The last uphill, 52 steps and you will reach the Sun Gate. We will have a chance to enjoy the sunset and see MACHUPICCHU before taking a 20 minute bus ride to your hotel in AGUAS CALIENTES. Plenty of time to enjoy the sites and take photos and take in the history as your guide gives you all the details of MACHUPICCHU.  If you have reserved tickets to hike HUAYNAPICCHO, you will proceed there after the walking tour. After the tour we will head back to AGUAS CALIENTES by bus. You will have time for lunch and to check out the town before we will take a train back to Cusco. Usually the train we take will be leaving at 2:55pm, but this will depend on your schedule.
